This post explains the electricity price in Madrid and, therefore, it applies to apartments and houses. It is not intended to be exhaustive, just to show its basic price system.
The most common electricity price in Madrid
In Spain, electricity is one of the most expensive in Europe (as opposed to the price of water, which is one of the cheapest). Therefore, it is convenient to know the price structure.
Many foreign residents do not know how electricity rates work in Spain, they come with other cultures and habits. For example, in the use of air conditioning, which is usually left connected throughout the day, which makes the electricity bill high.
It applies to low voltage supply points with contracted power up to 15kw. Price depends on the time it is consumed. In times of high demand it can be up 3 times more expensive.
The consumption is distributed in three bands: peak (red), valley (blue) and super-valley (green) and in each time band it will have a different price. Consumption in super-valley is the most economical. On Saturdays and Sundays the off- peak rate applies at all times.
A good practice is to unplug unnecessary devices if you go on vacation.
